Electrical Installations
New Electrical Installations
New Electrical Installations get the benefit of having the electrical installation designed before the construction works commence. With careful consideration to the layout of the property all new electrical points shall be designated into the most desirable locations to suit the layout and ensure an attractive final finish.
New Builds
With modern building standards being where they are today we have the experience to execute the finishing touches with precision.
- All switches can be centralised to walls 500mm or less.
- All sockets and switches to be of the exact same heights throughout, distances from door frames.
- Ceiling light fittings centralised.
- New smoke alarms will be in line with ceiling light fittings.
- Fan isolators fitted above doors outside of wet rooms to comply with zoning regulations shall also be centralised.
- Where there is a bank of sockets a single box gap between each point will keep things consistent and allow the plasterers to do there job without any problems.
Re Wires
With older building standards where they were back then we have listed a few situations that may need to be introduced and consideration due to new layout re designing.
- In older houses there may be a need to swing internal doors the other way. On a new build it is expected that the internal doors open up to the wall therefore re wiring an older property things like light switch positions may need to be relocated to suit modern methods of construction.
- Ceiling light fittings are often closer to the window and can be centralised to the ceiling.
- All switches and sockets repositioned to suit a New Build heights 120mm switch and 450mm sockets.
- Interlinking Smoke/Heat alarms installed to comply.
- Socket in hall and on landing to comply.
- Appliance sockets must have accessible isolation (not just behind the appliance)
Existing Electrical Installations
Any work carried out on an existing electrical installation should be carefully considered before construction to determine that the installation or circuit is safe to be worked on. Things that homeowners are likely not to be aware of and relatively straightforward jobs that can worsen electrical safety..
- Swopping a plastic light fitting for a new decorative metal fitting.
- Replacing a plastic switch for a new metal switch.
- Installing a new appliance without ensuring RCD compatibility.
- An addition to any circuit that is untested.
- Green goo (decomposing plasticiser) leaking from outlets.
New Consumer Units
New consumer units come with a Surge protection device (SPD's) and individual RCBO protection devices. RCBO's are deemed to be the safest and most compliant installation available to the installer. Future proofing your installations to ensure they comply long after installation would see type A RCBO's become best practice. Other advantages and works included when fitting a new consumer unit are.
- Earth Bonding.
- Visual and functional inspection of all electrical points.
- Ensure all circuits are suitable for their application.
- Ensure all cables are tested to ensure earth continuity and Insulation resistance and are of the correct size.
- All circuits are labelled up at the Consumer Unit.
- Re secured connections throughout installation.
- Spare ways for future and ongoing works.
- Removal of any old fittings that are deemed unsuitable for application.
Electrical Testing
Having proof of Public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance. Registered with the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC).There are some items that must meet minimum standards that are laid out in the BS7671 18th edition Amendment 2 of the wiring regulations.
- Type A RCDs or RCBOs, operation of test buttons.
- Water/Gas Bonding and supplementary bonding.
- Correct size circuit breakers for the cable used within the circuit.
- Circuits comply with current or existing regulations and are in a satisfactory condition.
- Recommendations have been made about the condition of the electrical installation upon visual inspection.
