Plastering
Plastering is constructed in three parts, screw fixing plasterboard, dot & dabbing plasterboard and the final application, skimming.
Screw fixing
Screw fixing is where Plasterboard is applied to ceilings and stud partition walls using drywall screws. Drywall screws are used because they have a phosphate coating which protects from rust and each screw is driven directly into the timber until all parts of the plasterboard have been secured.
Dot and Dab
Dot and Dab is where Plasterboard is applied to the internal brick/blockwork using dabbing which is a drywall adhesive. With careful consideration to gain a level finish, all dabbing is applied evenly onto the adjoining surface and each plasterboard is stood up into position. After tapping back using a featheredge each plasterboard is then checked for level using a spirit level. Once the dabbing has gone off scrim tape is applied between plasterboard joints to avoid any cracking in the finished plaster that can be subject to the expansion of adjoining building materials.
Skimming
Skimming is where a finishing plaster is applied smoothly onto the prepared surface behind it. The drying process usually takes 3 days up to a week and is ready for painting when it goes pale pink. When carrying out a skimming task, mess will always be kept down to an absolute minimum, two coats of plaster will always be used as is specified on the bag and the skimming work will always be finished to an extremely high standard.
